Download – Management of a malignant hyperthermia (MH) crisis
Malignant hyperthermia (also termed as malignant hyperpyrexia) is a life threatening emergency. More appropriately it is a malignant hypermetabolic disorder. Increase in temperature is a hallmark of MH but it may be a late sign. The operating room area and recovery area should be equipped with appropriate resuscitative measures and equipment. Practice drills and simulation training are strongly recommended due to the rarity of this condition.
The importance of teamwork and communication is paramount to successful management of an MH crisis.
