Fluid Balance in the perioperative period
Fluid balance is an important area of perioperative medicine. If managed incorrectly it is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality. This article will discuss the aims of adult perioperative fluid therapy, fluid and electrolyte physiology, the assessment of hydration and volume status and offer guidelines for fluid management in surgical patients.
